Training and workshops
In supporting colleagues and institutions to implement a PASS/SI programme, the National Centre is able to provide appropriate training and workshops that assist in understanding the model, considering how it could be introduced and planning for its implementation and subsequent maintenance and development. The National Centre delivers introductory workshops ("PASS Demystified") and Supervisor Training.
Supervisor Training
This comprehensive, three-day Supervisor Training covers all aspects of the programme relating to the implementation, ongoing management and evaluation.
The training focuses on:
- Procedures for selecting subjects or modules to implement PASS/SI
- The role of the Supervisor, Academic staff, Administrative staff and the Leader
- Selection, training and support of student leaders
- Effective learning strategies and session activities
- Evaluation and funding
Those who complete the supervisor training will receive PASS/SI Supervisor and Leader manuals and a certificate of completion. The Supervisor training offered by the International Center and affiliated National Centres is the only recognised training for the programme.
The first UK Training of SI Supervisors for over 6 years took place in January 2009 at The University of Manchester and since then over 280 staff and more than 70 institutions have been trained. Training currently runs three times a year and there are a limited number of spaces. These do book up quickly so we suggest that you register your interest soon.
Supervisor Training in the UK is currently organised and run by Lund University. The next scheduled training session will take place in April 2016. For further information and to register your interest please contact: SI.mentor@kansli.lth.se
Demystified Workshops
The half day workshop is designed to introduce Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) from the basics, through the underlying principles to key elements required for implementation.
It will enable participants to consider how PASS might be adapted to suit their discipline as well as showcase where subjects are currently using it (across a range of areas) to impact significantly on the student experience.
It will address key questions such as:
- What is PASS?
- How can it benefit my students?
- How will it benefit staff?
- How will it benefit my Institution?
- What is required to set up a PASS Scheme?
The next session is due to run on 24th February 2016.
